Creating a sea with liquid watercolours on light box

Creating a sea with watercolours on the lightbox

Creating a sea with liquid watercolours on lightbox

After returning from a holiday by the sea (my favourite place!) we decided to create some artwork.
Liquid watercolours are beautiful to use - such lovely colours. I set out a provocation to inspire the children. Tiny pots of watercolours, pipettes, bubble wrap and a light box.

After popping some sea sounds on for more inspiration and I pretty much left the children to it.

The children (and I!) were fascinated as the paint dripped onto the bubble wrap and made its way around each bubble. As the different coloured paints merged with each other, it was quite mesmerising.

The girl enjoyed lifting her bubble wrap up and seeing the paint trickle down.

Whilst The Boy pushed the paint around the bubble wrap with his fingers.

We only have one light box and as they both wanted to have a go individually, I set one up in a tray. It worked nearly as well but it was more effective with the light shining through.

We also tried taking some prints from it but it didn't really work that well!

So we went back to the bubblewrap and liquid watercolours.
