Ladybird Playdough Provocation

Children love Ladybirds. Here's a great playdough provocation to inspire them further.

Ladybird Playdough Provocation

Red and black playdough is so effective. Great for creating the symmetrical spots on a ladybird.

Here's our recipe for creating a great malleable playdough. You could also add strawberry essence to make it even more of a sensory experience.

Red Playdough
You need:
·         450g plain flour
·         230g salt
·         8 tsp cream of tartar
·         5 tbsp cooking oil
·         430ml boiling water
·         Red food colouring
·         Strawberry food essence

All you do is:
Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil together in a large bowl. Add the food colouring to the water and mix into the other ingredients. At this point add the essence. Turn onto a floured surface and knead. If sticky, wait a few minutes and it will turn into a pile of fluffiness! Keep in a sealed bag or box and it will last for ages!

Black Playdough
You need:
·         450g plain flour
·         230g salt
·         8 tsp cream of tartar
·         5 tbsp cooking oil
·         430ml boiling water
·         Black food colouring

All you do is:

Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil together in a large bowl. Add the food colouring to the water and mix into the other ingredients. Turn onto a floured surface and knead. If sticky, wait a few minutes and it will turn into a pile of fluffiness! Keep in a sealed bag or box and it will last for ages!

Googly eyes and black pipe cleaners add detail to the ladybirds.

There are also lots of ladybird crafts out there.

There are lots of lovely books about ladybirds. Here a just a few!
