Baby Doll Hospital

The Girl and The Boy are loving playing babies so we set up a baby hospital. The children had a wonderful time making casts for their babies.

Creating real casts on dolls!

All you need is some modroc which can we bought from amazon. It comes in rolls so all you need to do it cut it up into strips. Dip the strips into water. Make sure you do not leave it in the water, just dip it in so it is completely wet. Before you apply the modroc, cover the area with a layer of Vaseline. This will help it to come off when you are finished with it.

Lay the strips of modroc onto the area you are making a cast for, smooth over with your fingers until the holes close over. Keep applying the strips of modroc until you have a couple of layers, so the cast will be strong enough.

Once you have applied enough layers then simply leave the modroc to dry in the baby hospital! Once it has dried it will become really hard. It will need cutting off when finished with.

There are so many opportunities for using imagination in play through this. Once the casts have been applied, further appointments can be made to visit the baby hospital to have the casts removed, for check up appointments, x-rays or physio sessions.
Why not set up appointment books for them to write in or medical cards to be filled in,

Children love to bath dolls. This could also be a part of your baby hospital. Discussions on how to care for babies, what babies need and basic first aid.

The children had so much fun with these activities. Just make sure you have plenty of old towels around and plastic covering when using modroc. Wipe clean straight away from areas modroc may have splashed onto. And don't use on real body parts!
