Addition on the wooden block

Using natural materials just seems to make things so much more appealing

Number Problems

Loose materials, dice, numbers, along with a gorgeous chunk of wood for an invitation to explore addition or subtraction. Let them create their own sums by either rolling two dice to add together. The loose materials can then be used to represent the numbers.

This could be moved on further by them recording their sums on a whiteboard or paper.

It didn't take them long to come over and have a go at doing their own sums.

There are lots of different possibilities within this provocation. They could use the dice to decide on numbers to add together or simply choose numbers themselves. By having buttons available, they can use them to work the sum out practically.
