The children have talked all year about throwing a birthday party for our cat. We thought at the grand age of 17 she deserved something!
They were keen to make a present for our cat but took a while to decide what as they weren't convinced that she would actually play with much as all she does is sleep!
We spent a cosy afternoon in front of the fire with a basket of ribbons creating.
After the cat themed party invitations were written it was party preparation time.
They decided we should have chocolate mice as favours.
You can't have a party without pass the parcel! With a cat themed book for a prize of course!
We chose Cats Ahoy! by Peter Bently and Jim Field.
Drawing cat paw prints on the drive way with chalk to welcome the guests to the party!
When the guests arrived, it was gift time!
The Girl had planned the party and on the schedule was play dough time first!
You can find more Invitation to Play's here - Invitation to Play
Loose materials are wonderful to create with. I just adore the way children's imaginations work.
They then thought it would be fun to paint cat noses and whiskers on their faces!
Finally before some cat themed party food they decorated the biscuits which The Girl and The Boy had baked.
Following the party they wanted to continue with a cat theme. We tested our new watercolours by Ecoline by painting cat portraits. Here's a link to where we bought ours from. Liquid watercolours
The Girl wanted to find out which breed of domestic cat people preferred so we drew up a tally chart and block graph. She took this to the Church coffee morning which we attend and gathered peoples preferences. I'm a believer of them being surrounded by people of all ages rather than just in a class of children the same age.
We then took the learning further moving onto Tigers.
We looked at a few paintings by Henri Rousseau and chose 'Tiger in a Tropical Storm to inspire us. They used oil pastels to create their own interpretations.
I set up a play dough Invitation to Play to inspire the children, based on the book The Tiger who came to Tea.Orange and black play dough, sparkly beads, googly eyes, pipe cleaner, cocktail sticks and a tea set of course!
